Well, this week as usual has been a little crazy, but I think we are getting the hang of it!
Tomorrow we are planning to get up early and go to The Woodlands Mall. I feel so bad for my girls because I am not a mall person at all. I hate going to the mall. I like to go to the specific stores I like and not have to pass by all the other ones. I love book stores and antique shops to mingle around.
My girls are the typical teenage girls who love the mall, the girlishness of shopping around, and of course scoping out the boys!
Luckily this year will be a growing year, not only for me, but for them. I will struggle through letting them grow-up, and letting them go a little at a time. It is hard to be the mother of two girls, it is a dangerous world out there, one I am too familiar with myself.
This year we decided to have an exchange student come and stay with us. We tried it last year and didn't have much luck with a young girl from Brazil, never again will we host a girl. There are enough hormones in this house already! So we decided to give it another try after having Luiz, also from Brazil with us for a while last year. He touched our hearts in such a way that he gave us hope for the program. Many thought I was crazy to have a boy, 18 yrs. old at that, in my house with my girls. One wouldn't understand unless they give it a try. They don't all come here looking for girls. Besides, once living in the house, they become part of the family. Axel has quickly fit in well. He gets along with the girls wonderfully. He has become their brother. It isn't a relationship that is forced, it has come naturally. We prayed for a while after our bad experience to put the right child in our path. With Luiz's help last January, I began going through the profiles. I trusted Luiz's instincts to help since he had lived with us and would know best how to find a suitable match. We are so happy with Axel.
Well, he will be going with the girls tomorrow to the mall. Not only do I feel good having him with the girls, but I feel good about having them there to show him around and introduce him to American teenage life. We will see how it goes.
For me, I will be here catching up on some work and reading, Eat, Pray, Love!
Till we meet again,
Amy
So what made you think about an exchange program in the first place? Sounds very interesting and I am happy this go round is working for you all. Is it just for a year?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in high school we had a couple of exchange students and I even brought one of them to church with me at Crestview. I have recently reconnected with one of them on FB. They were the dearest people and so interesting to learn how people around the world live. We have always wanted to have more children so we see this as a way to do that. We want to share our home, way of living and our faith with them. It isn't always what you expect it to be..sometimes it is so much more.
